toreadabook

I'm very excited about launching this! I've been working on the icons for it for ages, to be honest, because it takes such a long time to read a book/reread to make notes/design 25 icons per book, but I think it's finally ready! I don't know exactly how often I'll post, but probably a few times a week? :)

Today's launch posts:

Book Review - Gingerbread [21 Jun 2006|04:58pm]

Book Review
Title: Gingerbread
Author: Rachel Cohn
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 4.8/5
Your opinion on the book: I really liked this book a lot. I would say that it's a great read for any teenage girl (or even boy). It's about a girl named Cyd, who struggles with her family, friends, and boyfriend, the usual teen stuff. The end is left sort of open, so I am guessing there will be a sequel!
Other great reads: More Than You Can Chew is a really good book, that is also about a struggling teenage girl, like Gingerbread.

Title: The Time Traveler's Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
Genre: I'm not really sure
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 4.5/5
Your opinion on the book: I loved this book. I thought that it would be kind of boring, but it really kept me interested, and just the way Henry appeared in different times and such. It amazed me the something like this time travel type of book could be so good, but honestly Audrey did a wonderful job in not making it boring. You got to know the characters a bit better than what I had expected to which was nice. I liked the older Henry better; he amused me for some reason.
Other great reads: Anything by Sarah Dessen or Jodi Picoult.

Title: Just Listen
Author: Sarah Dessen
Genre: YA
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 5/5
Your opinion on the book: I absolutely loved this book. I could see this happening so easily to someone, and then meeting someone who can change your opinion about life in genergal. I fell in love with Owen. He and Annabel together just made me smile because I see them having these animated conversations over music and such.
Other great reads: I'm reading a great book now, The Time Traveler's Wife; if you haven't checked it out, you must do so!

so i figured out i'm not going to school tomorrow. as a result i decided to do some reviews

Book Review
Title: I, Robot
Author: Isaac Asimov
Genre: science fiction
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 4.5/5
Your opinion on the book: It was actually really good. I saw the movie before I read the book and was quite surprised at the vast amount of differences. At any rate, it kept me interested and there was no lack of action. Even the explanations for why the robots act the way they do is pretty cool. I would definitely reccomend this to anyone who likes sci-fi
Other great reads: Everything else I'll review ;-)

Book Review
Title: Bless Me, Ultima
Author: Rudolfo Anaya
Genre: not really sure
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 1.5/5
Your opinion on the book: Let me start off by saying that it was one of my summer reading books for school. I never like my summer reading books. This one just....tops them all. I only gave it a 1.5 because it had great writing style. The whole story line was hard to understand. I might have liked it more had I not been forced to read it over and over again.

Title: The Pursuit of Happiness
Author: Tara Alterbrando
Genre: Y/A
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 5/5
Your opinion on the book: Absolutely amazing. It's about a girl who looses her mother to a terminal illness. Kind of cliche I know but it gets better. The girl is a dork. Not a preppy cheerleader type, or a gothic type. Just your average run-of-the-mill girl. That's what makes her wonderful. She falls in love, finds herself, all that good stuff. The book isn't cliche though. It's just the blunt truth without any stupid sugar coatings on things like most books seem to be now. I just adored this book beyond words

Title: Thank You for Smoking
Author: Christopher Buckley
Genre: uhhhh not too sure
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 4.5/5
Your opinion on the book: Just an all around amusing read. I saw ads for the movie and wanted to check out the book, so I did. The only real reason it didn't get 5 stars is because sometimes it gets too confusing. The characters are amusing and the plot keeps moving but there's something missing from it. I found it really entertaining. Maybe I'm just a big nerd though...

Summer Reading [23 May 2006|08:13pm]

xcomplete4mex8
Next year as my English Class I'm taking AP English (Advanced Placement) and over the summer I have to read 4 novels (no short stories allowed).
I have a list of authors that are 'acceptable' to my teacher.
Any helpful books or opinions on authors or their writing style would be loved for FOREVER. (since I've only heard of two of them)

James Fenimore Cooper
William Faulkner
Sinclair Lewis
Herman Melville
John Steinbeck
- I can't read Of Mice and Men
Mark Twain
John Updike
Kurt Vonnegut

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello loves,

Book Review

Title: My Sister's Keeper
Author: Jodi Picoult
Genre: teen fiction?
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 3 or 4
Your opinion on the book: It was amazing. I really got into it and felt for the characters, I'm actually pretty sad that it's over. It's just easy to relate to, which is surprising because the topic is so abstract. However, the ending really threw me I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like it. But that's all I will say so that I don't give it away. Minus the ending though it was really good and I would recommend it.
Other great reads: As always, The Perks of being a Wallflower and many others but I won't go into that.

Has anyone read any other books by Jodi Picoult? I like her style although maybe not her endings, haha. So if you have any other recommendations by her they would be greatly appreciated. You can write them here, or my journal just tell me to add you. I love new friends.

♥ Peace

The Da Vinci Code [03 May 2006|07:41pm]

Book Review
Title: The Da Vinci Code
Author: Dan Brown
Genre: Fiction
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 4 1/2
Your opinion on the book:
I absolutely loved this book. My stepmom recommended it to me. When she told me what it was about I decided to read it and see for myself. I couldn't put it down. I was up reading all Sunday night, I read in class on Monday when I wasn't doing work or falling asleep, and I stayed up Monday night to finish it. I usually can put a book down, but I couldn't. I thought it was a great book. Once I got past the first few chapters I was alright. The beginning I thought was kind of slow but then it as it starts to unwravel it gets better and better. I would recommend it to anyone.
Other great reads:
I'm not quite sure of anything that really touches base with this novel. But I want to read Angels & Demons and other books by Dan Brown.

I really want to read Perks of Being a Wallflower, but the library doesn't have it & I'm cheap. 1984 by George Orwell..and that's all that comes to mind right now.

I think anyone who reads for fun shouldn't be forced to go to school. Really, I do. There's nothing I'd rather do than sit at home all day & read, but school always interferes with that *sadface*

Book Review
Title: Sloppy Firsts
Author: Megan McCafferty
Genre: Y/A
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 5/5
Your opinion on the book: Haha, I thought it was HILLARIOUS! I absolutely love how Jess narrorates this book (Shut up, I know, I can't spell ;___;). And I liked how unpredictable it was. Just when I thought, "Oh, I know what's going to happen! Ha, ha!" she would switch it about on me. Yes. I liked that a lot. ^ ^
Other great reads:
Second Helpings (I was going to write a review on that, as well, but now I'm too tired, but I thought it was just as good -if not better- than the first one.)

Looking forward to "Charmed Thirds" which, according to Amazon, will be released on April 11. *Squee!* xD;

Title: Diary
Author: Chuck Palahniuk
Genre: Fiction
Number of Stars you would rate this book: 5/5
Your opinion on the book: Okay, anyone who's read Chuck Palahniuk's other books, especially Fight Club, should be expecting something like this. Unfortunately... I was not. Haha. I literally could not put this book down, it has such a way of entwining itself into your mind. Each entry of the Diary ends in such a way that it makes you want to read the next entry right away. The fantastic events in the first three-fourths of the book lead up to an ending that I doubt anyone would see coming.
